Future of the Earth

The future of the Earth will be determined by a variety factors, including increases in the luminosity of the Sun,loss of heat energy from the Earths core, pertubations by the other bodies in the Solar System and the biochemistry at the Earths Surface. Milankovitch Theory predicts the planet will continue to undergo glaciation cycles because of eccentricity, axial, tilt and precession of the Earths Orbit. As part of on going super continent cycle, plate tectonics will likely result in supercontinent in 250-350million years

On billion to two billion years in the future, the steady increase in solar radiation caused by the helium build up at the core of the sun will result in the loss of ocean and cessation of continental drift. The most likely ultimate fate of the planet is absorption by the sun in 7.5 billion years in the future, after the star has entered the red giant phase and expanded to cross the planets orbit.
